Jeffrey Sachs is an American economist, academic, public policy analyst and former director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he holds the title of University Professor. Sachs is known as an expert on sustainable development, economic development, and the fight against poverty.
During the dissolution of the Soviet Union he was invited first by Soviet President Gorbachev and then by Russian President Yeltsin to advise on the transition from central planning to a market economy. From 2001 to 2018, he served as Special Advisor to the UN Secretary General. His books covered in this interview are: A New Foreign Policy: Beyond American Exceptionalism; and To Move the World: JFK’s Quest for Peace.
