A revolution in our food supply and in agriculture has taken place in the last 20 years that has remained unknown, secret or unrecognized – depending on your point of view. However the efforts to label genetically modified organisms by consumers and the forceful resistance to the right to know what we eat by corporations that produce the genetically engineered corn, soy, beets, alfalfa etc. have triggered a fundamental question. If GMO plants are nutritious, safe and ecologically sound – why are corporations not proud to label their GMO foods?
Dr. Don Huber, Professor Emeritus of Plant Pathology, Microbiology, and Soil-borne Disease Control came out of retirement to speak out on the dangers of glyphosate and genetically modified plants. He was one of the early critics of GMO food and of the use of glyphosate on GMO plants that were bred to survive applications of the weed-killer.
In this part of his talk he reports on the findings of his lab at Perdue University. GMO plants sprayed with Monsanto’s Roundup that contains glyphosate are less drought tolerant, have smaller root-balls, need more irrigation, lack in important minerals, are susceptible to disease, and can damage the liver and reproductive capacity of animals fed with them. Also glyphosate persists much longer in the soil than claimed by Monsanto.
Some of these lab results now have become public as Monsanto had to disclose internal papers and e-mail in the damage claims that have been successfully raised in court by a school grounds keepers and home owners who used Roundup and now suffer from cancer (Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma).
